EUROPEAN OAK
Grown in the UK and Europe the high strength and durability of Oak proves it popular for furniture & construction work. The timber consists of a yellowish brown colour, strait grain and medium to coarse texture.
The Tree – Split into two species, Red Oak and White Oak, both reach heights of 18m to 30m depending on growth conditions. Branches average around 1.5m in length in forests however can stretch between 1.5m – 2.5m in open areas.
The Timber – European Oak is a hard, heavy and dense hardwood, with a very high crushing and bending strength, low stiffness and resistance to shock loads. Oak timber is ideal for gluing, painting, sanding, staining and varnishing to a high polish when required. The Oak can also be darkened further by fuming with ammonia.
